Ultra is an international venture capital firm and accelerator focused on supporting startups committed to making a positive difference in the world.
Ultra’s branding is based on the principles of inclusivity, diversity and out-of-the-box thinking, which inspired us to create a unique typeface.
Task
To develop a custom variant typeface that conveys the ultra.vc brand philosophy and values at all levels of communication.
The typeface was to become an expressive graphic tool capable of adapting to different contexts, conveying a strong visual identity and enhancing the emotional perception of the brand.

Creating a font with character
Ultra Type is a typeface that is not afraid to stand out. Its serendipitous nature is evident in its bold proportions and expressive details. The typeface loves large sizes and is spectacular at maximum sizes. Each letter becomes a graphic element in its own right. Ultra-wide and super-narrow characters create a dramatic contrast that draws the eye and stops it in its tracks. To support the technological nature of the brand, we made the typeface variable — adapting to sizes, space and context.

Adding functionality
Despite its boldness, Ultra Type remains very functional. It remains legible in condensed and low-contrast styles. This makes it versatile for both loud, attention-grabbing statements and more subdued typographic compositions.
Small quotes from the experiments of the 1920s can be found in the details: in the curves of the strokes, in the shape of the serifs, in the play with geometry that gives the project a slight playfulness.




Not forgetting the alternative
One of the key features of Ultra Type is its alternative fonts. They allow designers to amplify the emotional part of the brand through glyphs with more expressive typography.
Like a jazz improvisation, letters can change shape, adding dynamism and bold visual accents.


We have a typeface that reflects the principles of inclusivity, diversity and out-of-the-box thinking that are at the heart of the brand. Ultra Type is more than a typeface, it’s a statement.
